Policies & Information
The West River Pheasant Hunting Preserve operates in accordance to the Idaho Fish & Game rules, laws, regulations. As such, our team of operators will enforce these requirements upon all participating hunters and spectators. Please review some of our below policies before visiting the Preserve to better prepare for your time in the field.
- Release of Liability: Every hunter is required to sign a release of liability waiver before hunting. The West River Pheasant Hunting Preserve upholds all state-advised safety and hazard prevention regulations to prevent unnecessary injury, trauma, or fatality. Every hunter assumes the risk and responsibility of loaded firearms in the presence of others.
- Hours of Operation: The West River Pheasant Hunting Preserve operates between August 15 - April 15, Monday - Saturday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. Appointments must be scheduled prior to visiting the Preserve. Blackout dates include Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day. For additional inquiries regarding blackout dates or availability, contact Erik Bird for more information.
- Operating Costs: All hunts require a 10-bird minimum purchase per party. Roosters are $35 while hens are $30. If previous hunting parties fail to claim the entirety of their purchased birds during their allotted hunt, upcoming hunting parties are allowed to hunt the unclaimed birds from previous parties.
- Hunting Dogs: Hunting dogs are available upon request if not already supplied by your hunting party. Please contact Erik Bird for more information about reserving a hunting dog for your party if needed.
- Guns & Ammo: All hunting parties are required to bring their own guns and ammo for the entirety of their outing. Guns and ammo are not currently available for rent or purchase but likely will be in the near future.
- Party Sizes: Hunting parties can be any size—including those hunting or spectating.
- Ring-necked Pheasant Guarantee: The West River Pheasant Hunting Preserve guarantees the availability of roosters and hens as potential game. The Preserve is home to a regulated population of pheasants which hunters have the chance to claim. The Preserve cannot guarantee hunters will successfully shoot their pheasants, but can guarantee hunters will have the chance at shooting them.
